RANDOM WORDS - What happens to Derrick Pouliot?

As most (or at least you Pens and Stars fans) know, the Pens have made 2 deals in the past 24 hours, both to aquire players who can do some damage now.

They have aquired Brendan Morrow, Douglas Murray and a 3rd round pick in total, for Joe Morrow, a 5th and 2 2nds.

At first, I was not impressed with the Brendan Morrow trade. Sure, he gives 110% each time, and is a heart and soul guy. But he is aging (34) and his best days are past him. He's having a tough season in Dallas.

I was not mad about the Pens getting Morrow, it was what they had to give up - another Morrow. Joe Morrow, their 2011 first round pick. Derrick Pouliot's Winter Hawks teammate. Top prospect.

Before the trade, they had a great group of D-men for the future. Letang, Brian Doumilin, Simon Despres, Scott Harrington, Robert Bortuzzo, Olli Maata, Pouliot, and Morrow.

I expected the D-men in the future be:

Letang - Despres
Pouliot - Morrow
Maata - Harrington

What really gets me is there is 2 set of junior players playing on the same team. Because of their expreience now, I am sure they would continue to click at the NHL level, which would benefit both.

They traded Jordan Staal to the Canes for Doumilin, Sutter and their 1st. They used that first to select Pouliot.

Well... that was the 7th overall pick. Derrick was ranked 10-15 picks later, so I thought the reason they picked him was to play with Joe Morrow.

So... with him gone, does that mean Derrick's time as a Pen is soon over?

WHO KNEW? Mark Fraser is leading the NHL in +/-?

Wow. Checked to see the box score of the Leafs game last night (hat trick Kadri) and the NHL leading scorers. Mark Fraser is leading the league in +/- with +15. WOW. From an enforcer. A journeyman defenseman. A likely career bottom line pairing player, if he can crack the lineup.

Don't get me wrong. He's been playing great.

BUT ON THE LEAFS, WITH THEIR DEFENCE???

All I have to say is wow.

NHCD Set Completed! Thanks Michael!

Just got home from a long day at in the States today. Came home to see a boatload of mail in my mailbox, 2 were for me. One was a TTM (And a REALLY nice one I'll be posting about soon) and a puffy envelope from Michael from Collecting for Kicks. I knew exactly what it was. I had contacted him after NHCD last week to see if we could work out some sort of trade to help me complete my set. Well, he told me he didn't need any because he already had a set, so sent me them! It was #4 Casey Czikas and #5 Mark Stone.

So THANKS Michael! Look for an envelope to arrive at your house next week!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to my cousin...

Big shout out to my cousin, who had her first child, a baby girl, on Sunday during the Super Bowl, right after the power outage. Although premature (3 and something pounds) both her and mom are doing well. Still name-less ;) CONGRATS!!!

Who's Your Favourite Summer Olympians?

Wow! Me post something non-hockey??? Now that's an accomplishment! But here is an odd question that I asked myself... who is your favourite summer olympian? I was thinking of a basketball player in the NBA, but NBC never broadcasts that stuff. Actually, it seems like that NBC mostly broadcasts only gymnastics, swimming, track, and on rare occasions tennis and beach volleyball. So, who is your favourite summer olympian? Favourite Female Olympian: Aly Raisman, Gymnastics

 

This one was tough for me... all the 4 finalists were from the gymnastics team! The finals were between her and teammate Jordyn Wieber... but with Aly's performance today, I picked her. What's not to like about an athlete who does flips, twists, and dangerous landings, some on a balance beam! And I see her perform A LOT thanks to NBC. Not to mention she's really pretty! ;)

Favourite Male Athlete: Usain Bolt, Track and Field

To me, Usain Bolt is like Alex Ovechkin in hockey. He looks like a person that is funny and loves to have fun, on and off the track. And an all-around great guy. Sound a little like Ovie? And don't forget he is also the fastest man ever! His last name Bolt fits him absolutely perfectly!

I just posted my 2010-11 Score Rookies Traded Box Break only for it to come out messed up, and then deleted it! There goes 45 minutes of work!! Oh, I hate you f***ing blogger!!!

Sorry for the lack of posts everyone! I have been quite busy, but I am in a mall right now and went to Dollarama and spent $3.39 on a package of Top Loaders, Card binder pages and a pack of mystery hockey cards. I will give you 2 clues of which card I got, I have never got a card of this kid (First Clue- He plays in the WHL)and I think he's going to get drafted in the first round in this year's draft(there's your second clue) So get some rest and wait for tomorrow!!

Well... the 2011/12 Spitfires season is over.

An 8-3 loss to London last night ends our season... but it was an exciting, suspenseful season right to the very end! All the fans in Windsor are proud of you guys! Goodbye to John Cullen, Zack MacQueen and Derek Holden. It was emotional when it showed on TV when everyone left John Cullen skating out and looking around for one last time. Now we can look forward to the #5 overall pick! GO SPITS GO!

Just... Done!!

Finally, after 3 days of hard work starting my blog, a little frustratin, I finally got my computer and blog to behave, and I can officially say that I - AM - DONE and this is the way I imagined it. It will be updated often like this, so thank you to my supporters, and especially to Michael who helped me a lot along the way.
